2015 Awards

The Capital City Sailing Association held its 8th annual Awards and Winter Gathering Banquet with a record attendance of 31 sailors. 2015 was a great year for CCSA.
• We ended the year with a total of 19 members.
• The Parks & Recreation Dept. installed a water line into our facility. This will allow us to keep the boats and dollies cleaner
• Our July Sailing classes had five students complete the course.
• In working with JC Parks and Re on youth sailing sessions more than twenty younger sailors were introduced to sailing.
• CCSA now has 7 Club Boats; a Flying Scott, 3 JY-15s, a Laser, a Mega-byte and a Sunfish.
• There is a new fleet of six Mega-bytes.

The 2015 Sailing Awards went to the top five places for the spring and a fall series of races this past year.

Steve Meyer 5th (tie) Overall – 8th Spring & 3rd Fall Series
Leszek Vincent 4th Overall – 6th Spring & 4th Fall series

2016 Calendar
Feb 27th: A workshop on racing rules will be held on February 27th. I will have the ‘Learn The Racing Rules through 2016’ – a two-part DVD set by David Dellenbaugh and North U that explains the 2013-2016 Racing Rules of Sailing
March 12th will be our spring planning meeting for the 2016 season in March. Watch the website JCSAILING.org for more details.

The 2015 Capital City Sailing Association business Meeting was called to order at 9AM March 28, 2015 With 10 members in attendance,

The 2014 Financial & Membership Reports were presented by Janet Weckenborg. CCSA had 28 members in 2014 and ended the fiscal year in sound financial shape.

New Business
1. CCSA Work Days are scheduled for April 18th to transport boats to CCSA and April 25 to prepare the facility for the season as well as rig the sailboats. Janet W. will advise if the transport activity is needed

2. 2014 CCSA & OSC Schedules were discussed and revised. The 2015 Spring Series Race Start time has changed to 10:30AM. In addition the 2015 Fall Series will shift to a SUNDAY 2 PM Start as an experiment to increase participation.

3. The 2015 Introduction to Sailing Classes are already full and there is a waiting list. CCSA will try to accommodate those on the waiting list however, we need volunteers to assist in teaching the class. The dates are July 11th, 18th and August 1st. The class is scheduled from 9AM to noon.

4. The Ozark Sailing Club will have a Dingy Race at the Lake on 06/13 at 10AM. The Ozark Sailing Dingy Shoot-out will be held on 07/25.

Members are reminded that April 26th is the due date for having paid their CCSA Fees.

2014 Business Meeting

March 15, 2014
The Capital City Sailing Association held its annual business meeting for 2014. The financial report reported that revenue was meeting projections. Members are encouraged to submit the annual dues and fees for the season. All payments must be submitted prior to April 26, 2014.
The officers for the 2014 were elected. The officers are;
• Commodore Jim Crabtree
• Vice Commodore Paul Rudder
• Secretary Treasurer Janet Weckenborg
The CCSA Committee structure for the season was approved. The Committees are:

The next CCSA event is the workday to open the facility of April 26th. Volunteers will meet at the CCSA grounds at 9AM to clean and rig boats. Steve Meyer & Herman Traudes will contact members if specific tools or equipment is required. Many hands make for light work so please plan on helping out.

CCSA 2013 sailing awards

Captial City Sailing Association

CCSA Sailing awards were presented to members recognizing the 2013 accomplisments. The first set of awards were presented by the Commodore to to sailors for their cumlative results on the race course. Awards were given to eight places. These awards reflect the Spring and Fall Race Series which encompassed 12 races.

Three sailors were upifted for special recognition. These included the Most Improved Sailing Award, The Commodere’s Award for Service and the Bottom’s-Up Award for most the dramatic capsize.

The recepients include:
Most Improved Sailing Award – Traci Newberry
The Commodere’s Award was awarded to Steve Meyer for his dedicated service
Bottom’s-Up Award for the most dramatic capsize went to Paul Rudder

2014 Calendar of Events

Capital City Sailing Association is located in Jefferson City, Missouri. The primary goal of CCSA is to promote the art of sailing and provide friendly completion as a means to enhance learning. CCSA functions are held throughout the year. Sailing events are an important part of our sailing community as we try to have something for everyone to enjoy.
Included in our calendar are events offered by our neighboring Ozark Sailing Club located at Lake of the Ozarks. Our intent is to work in cooperation with OYC in promoting sailing and sailing opportunities.

SAT 7/12/14, SAT 7/19/14, & SAT 8/2/14 CCSA Intro to Sailing – introductory 3 session series to acquaint individuals with the basics of small sailboat handling. Enrollment is limited to individuals that are skilled in swimming and 15 years old or older.

Sat 7/26/14 OSC – Fall Dinghy Race – Race your own dinghy (up to 15′) or rent one from OYC for this fun event. Where: OYC’s Princess Beach & Pavilion Skipper Meeting begins at 11 AM and the first race will follow at Noon. A total of 3 races may occur (weather permitting)

Topics include: Racing Rules & Scoring, Trimming The Sails, Winning The Start, Match Racing Upwind, Upwind Mark, Working The Lay Line, Match Racing Downwind, Downwind Mark, Using The Spinnaker, Approaching The Finish Line.

Mayor’s Cup Regatta and Fall Open House on Saturday

The Capital City Sailing Association invites all sailors to the 4th annual Mayor’s Cup Regatta and Fall Open House on Saturday, September 14th, 2013. We are pleased to extend this invitation not only to our club sailors, but also to those from other clubs, including the Ozark Yacht Club from Lake of the Ozarks. Please join us for a fun day of sailing, food and friends!

Attached is the official “Race Notice” which has the information and schedule for the event, including:

Open house to start at 9am- Join us for a short sail, and see our new facility here at Binder Lake,

Lunch at 11:30am- Pot luck picnic lunch, main dish provided by CCSA and all the side dishes provided by our members and friends,

Race check-in by 12:00 Noon- the “Mayor’s Cup Regatta” to begin first race at 1:30pm.

We encourage any interested sailor with a Sunfish, Laser, JY15, Lightning, Flying Scot or similar centerboard type boat to join in! The deadline for entering the race is officially the same day as the race, but we would like you to pre-register if at all possible. An official Entry Form is attached, and you can Email or Fax a completed copy back to me. Fee for the race can be paid at the registration table the day of the race.
