The mid west regional regatta was a success fun weekend. Participants arrived from Louisiana, Indiana and Missouri. Of course Rhode Island was represented with Bo Williams of Zim sailing. The first day of the event was a clinic on setting up, tuning and sharing sailing techniques on the Megabyte. New documents detailing the subject of the proceedings will be posted on the website and shared with owners. Social hour followed and the swapping of sailing stories began.
2017 Midwest Regional Regatta
The Megabyte Class held a regional regatta at the Lake of the Ozarks in mid Missouri. Sailors arrived from Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri and Rhode Island. The event started with a workshop on fine tuning the Megabyte and fast sailing techniques on Friday. Much conversation ollowed as the sailors gathered for dinner and drinks.
Saturday was race day and the winds were 10-15 out of the NNW. The periodic gusts created a challenge for the fleet. There were 6 capsizes in the morning races but everyone arrived safely back to the yacht club or lunch – some wetter than others.
The afternoon winds built a bit as they clocked to the west. The race course was moved to a protected inlet and the racing began. The new challenge was shifty winds inland lakes are known for. In fact one race had, at times, three windward legs! An adjustment of the race course. Experience became the teacher as there was only one boat capsize!
The results for the six race regatta:
1st Place – Leszek Vincent, Columbia, MO
2nd Place – Bo Williams, Newport RI
3rd Place – Don Milner, St Louis, MO
4th Place – Dieter Ungerboeck, Osage Beach, MO
Special thanks to our sponsors; CCSA, Ozark Yacht Club and Zim Sailing. And kudos to Ozark Sailing Association for serving as our race committee.
